Cowgirl Cuisine: Rustic Recipes and Cowgirl Adventures from a Texas Ranch, Paula Disbrowe
This is one of my all-time favorite cookbooks. I love it so much that I have given it as a gift to several friends and family members. I bought this at a carwash (of all places) because I noticed the Texas ranch she wrote about was near Leakey, Texas. My hometown is about 90 miles from Leakey and I spent many summers camping on the Frio River near that tiny Texas town. Not only does this cookbook have yummy recipes, there are some great stories about her transition from New York City to ranch life in rural Texas. One of my favorite stories is about the first time she found a scorpion in her boots. There’s even a story that mentions my hometown, Castroville, Texas!
