Flexitarian

A few years ago a book caught my eye in the bookstore. That book was Skinny Bitch. I had no idea it was about veganism, but I bought it anyway. At the time, I was eating a lot of meat but I was starting to want less and less. I’m not so sure all the information in the book was factual. Nonetheless, what I read freaked me out because I was already starting to get turned off by meat. After I finished reading the book I completely stopped eating meat. This lasted for a few months until I decided I would include meat in my diet but it would be in moderation. Instead of eating meat with practically every meal I now only include it in one to three meals a week. My portion sizes are much smaller too, about 3 to 5 ounces per serving.

I like to read a lot about nutrition and health. About a year into eating meat in moderation I happened to stumble upon the word ‘flexitarian’. I had never heard this term before, but I discovered it describes my diet perfectly. A flexitarian eats meat in moderation.

Friends have teased me about not eating as much meat but I just let it roll off my back. I never thought others would care so much about my diet! I feel healthier and eating less meat means I am spending less money at the grocery store. If you have made changes in your diet to cut back on meat I’d love to hear what you have to say about it.

Hey Guinn! Very interesting, I had no idea you had cut down on meat so much. I guess you could call me a Flexitarian, as well. I’m not a huge meat eater either and have considered going the vegetarian route (could never go as far as vegan route) for the purpose of humane animal treatment – you know how I am a die hard animal lover. Anyway, very interesting…..I’m going to be more adament about following your blog, as well, as you seem to have some tasty and easy recipes.

Thanks Kristi! That’s great that you’ve reduced your meat intake. I have a feeling we both can’t be vegan for the same reason: cheese! 😉 I hope you find some recipes you like.
